What a rheumatologist does

A rheumatologist deals with inflammatory diseases of the joints, the spine and connective tissue. People come when joints swell and hurt even at rest, it takes a long time to loosen up in the morning, small joints of the fingers or toes puff up, or the big toe hurts in sudden attacks. Unlike a traumatologist-orthopedist, who looks for an injury or joint wear, a rheumatologist looks for inflammation, so blood tests matter a lot. Bring your test results and joint X-rays, and if the swelling comes and goes, photos of the swollen joints.

Frequently asked questions

Does a rheumatologist deal only with joints?

No. Besides arthritis, rheumatologists deal with gout and ankylosing spondylitis, as well as conditions in which the immune system damages the body’s own tissues: lupus, scleroderma and inflammation of the blood vessels (vasculitis). That is why people are referred to a rheumatologist not only with painful joints but also because of blood test results.

Which test results should I bring to a rheumatologist?

If you have had tests in recent months, bring the results — a complete blood count, ESR and C-reactive protein, rheumatoid factor, uric acid — and any joint X-rays. There is no need to do every test in advance: the rheumatologist will decide after the exam which ones are still needed. For labs and their test prices, see the Lab tests section.

How much does a rheumatologist appointment cost?

6 of the 48 rheumatologists have an appointment price from the clinic’s price list on their pages, with the date the list was taken. For the others, ask the clinic when booking.

How do I choose a rheumatologist?

Medaro does not rate doctors or recommend a particular one. Compare what the card lists — work experience, education, practice location, languages and the consultation price if there is one — and ask the clinic about what the page does not show, such as the earliest appointment date.

About this list

This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 48 doctors from 26 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number.

The districts with the most doctors on this list are Arabkir (15), Kentron (12), and Kanaker-Zeytun (10). The list includes 43 women and 3 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
