What an endoscopist does
An endoscopist looks inside the digestive tract with a flexible camera tube — the esophagus, stomach and duodenum in a gastroscopy, the large bowel in a colonoscopy — and can take a biopsy or remove a polyp. People with stomach pain, heartburn or bowel problems first see a gastroenterologist, proctologist or GP, who decides whether the procedure is needed. The clinic explains how to prepare: the bowel is cleared beforehand for a colonoscopy, and a gastroscopy is done on an empty stomach. Bring the referral, past endoscopy reports and a list of your medicines, especially blood thinners.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an endoscopist and a gastroenterologist?
A gastroenterologist sorts out your symptoms, orders tests and follows you over time, while an endoscopist performs the procedure itself and writes the report. Some doctors do both, and clinics list them under both specialties. If you have no referral yet, start with a gastroenterologist.
Do I need to see a gastroenterologist before a gastroscopy?
It depends on the clinic, but starting with a gastroenterologist is easier: they will go through your symptoms, decide whether a gastroscopy is needed and explain the report afterwards. Whether the procedure can be booked without that visit when you pay yourself, ask the clinic — they will also tell you how to prepare and whether it can be done under anesthesia.
Can I have a gastroscopy or colonoscopy under anesthesia?
At many Yerevan clinics, yes: price lists often show both procedures on two lines, with and without anesthesia. Whether anesthesia suits you is decided by the doctor and the anesthesiologist, and what both options cost at clinics is in our endoscopy price breakdown.
Which Yerevan clinics have endoscopists?
Endoscopists on this list work at 19 clinics, most often here: Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery (11), Erebuni Medical Center (4), and "Arabkir" Joint Medical Center — Institute of Child and Adolescent Health (3). Whether a particular clinic does the procedure you need and offers anesthesia, ask the clinic itself — its page with the phone number is in the “Where these endoscopists see patients” list.
How much does an endoscopist appointment cost, and where are procedure prices?
5 of the 42 endoscopists in this list have a consultation price from the clinic’s price list on their page, dated when the list was taken. Look for gastroscopy and colonoscopy prices in the clinic’s price list — they are usually listed separately with and without anesthesia.
About this list
This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 42 doctors from 19 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.
The districts with the most doctors on this list are Kanaker-Zeytun (18), Ajapnyak (6), and Kentron (5). The list includes 14 women and 28 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.
Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information
Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.
Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
