What a general surgeon does
A general surgeon deals with conditions that may need an operation or a minor procedure: abdominal and groin hernias, gallstones, ingrown toenails, abscesses, lipomas and other lumps under the skin. At a routine visit the surgeon examines you, reviews ultrasound and test results and explains whether an operation is needed and what kind. Narrower fields have their own lists: children see pediatric surgeons, veins and arteries are for vascular surgeons, fractures and joints for traumatologists. Bring ultrasound or CT reports, records of past surgery and a list of every medicine you take.
Frequently asked questions
Should I see a surgeon about an inguinal or umbilical hernia?
Yes: inguinal, umbilical and incisional hernias are a general surgeon’s work; after the examination the surgeon will tell you whether an operation is needed and how soon. A hiatal hernia is different: with it, and with frequent heartburn, people see a gastroenterologist. If the bulge turns hard and painful, no longer goes back in, or comes with nausea or vomiting, do not wait for a routine appointment — call 103.
Sudden stomach pain: should I see a surgeon or call 103?
If the pain is severe and getting worse, the abdomen is board-hard, or there is vomiting with blood or a high fever, call 103 rather than looking for a routine appointment. Ambulance numbers and round-the-clock emergency rooms are in the Emergency section. Do not mask the pain with painkillers before you are examined: the doctor needs to see how it changes.
Where can I find a pediatric surgeon?
Children have a list of their own in the directory — pediatric surgeons, now 25 doctors. Parents bring children to them with a hernia, phimosis or an undescended testicle.
How much does a surgeon’s consultation cost?
119 of the 251 surgeons in this list have a consultation price from the clinic’s price list on their page, dated when the list was taken. Operations are priced separately and depend on their scope and the anesthesia; ask the clinic about them and about the other doctors’ fees.
In which Yerevan districts do surgeons see patients?
Surgeons on this list most often see patients in these districts: Kanaker-Zeytun (72), Kentron (32), and Erebuni (32). To find one closer to home, pick your district in the “District” filter.
About this list
This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 251 doctors from 40 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number.
The list includes 17 women and 231 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.
Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information
Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.
Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites, and for some doctors from a saved copy of the site or a letter from the clinic; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
