Where these psychiatrists see patients

What a psychiatrist does

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who assesses mental health, makes a medical diagnosis and, when needed, orders tests and prescribes medication. People see one when anxiety, low mood, insomnia or intrusive thoughts last for weeks and get in the way of work and life, and with recurring panic attacks or sharp mood swings. For stress and relationship difficulties without such signs, many start with a psychologist, and for dependence on alcohol or other substances, with an addiction specialist. Bring the names of all the medicines you are on and any summaries from hospitals or earlier doctors.

Frequently asked questions

How is a psychiatrist different from a psychologist and a psychotherapist?

A psychiatrist is a doctor with medical training who can make a diagnosis, order tests and prescribe medication. A psychologist is not a doctor and works through conversation and psychological tests, while a psychotherapist treats with talking methods. The directory keeps separate lists, such as psychologists, and clinics list some psychiatrists as psychotherapists too.

When should I call 103, and when can I book a regular psychiatrist appointment?

If you or someone close to you has thoughts of self-harm, call 103 right away. A first-ever panic attack with chest pain also calls for 103: the heart has to be ruled out first. If a person hears voices or sees things that are not there, do not put off seeing a psychiatrist; in other cases, book a regular appointment.

Do psychiatrists see children and teenagers?

Child psychiatry is not singled out in the directory, so when booking, check whether the psychiatrist works with children and teenagers and from what age. You can also begin with a pediatrician or a pediatric neurologist, who can assess how the child is developing and refer on to a psychiatrist if needed.

Can I choose a female or male psychiatrist?

Yes: the 34 psychiatrists on this list include 18 women and 15 men. Personal matters are easier to discuss with someone you feel at ease with, so use the “Gender” filter to pick the option you prefer.

Which Yerevan clinics and hospitals have psychiatrists?

The psychiatrists on this list work at 9 medical facilities; the largest numbers are at RA Ministry of Health National Center for Mental Health Protection (19), "Armenia" Republican Medical Center (3), and Rebalance clinic (3). The full list with the number of doctors is in the “Where these psychiatrists see patients” section above.

About this list

This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 34 doctors from 9 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.

The districts with the most doctors on this list are Erebuni (19), Nork-Marash (5), and Ajapnyak (4).

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above. Ask the clinic about the cost of a consultation: some clinics have their price list on their Medaro page.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites, and for some doctors from a saved copy of the site or a letter from the clinic; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
