What a gynecologist does

A gynecologist looks after women’s reproductive health outside pregnancy: routine check-ups with a smear, contraception, irregular cycles, discharge, lower abdominal pain and menopause hot flashes. With a positive pregnancy test, go straight to an obstetrician-gynecologist; with a breast lump, to a mammologist; if pregnancy does not happen for a long time, the gynecologist will start the tests and say whether it is time to see a fertility specialist. Note the first day of your last period and bring earlier smear results, ultrasound reports and the name of any contraceptive you use.
